Faculty of Arts’ New Faculty Complex: A Case of Failed Building Integrity or Institutional Neglect?

When the new Faculty of Arts complex was conceived, it was framed as more than a structure upgrade or just another building project, it was presented as a necessary intervention into years of overcrowding and an attempt to align the faculty’s physical environment with the university’s long-standing academic reputation. At the official commencement of the project in November 2018, under the leadership of Professor Abel Idowu Olayinka, the then Vice-Chancellor of the university, and Professor Ademola Dasylva, the Dean of the Faculty of Arts, the faculty complex was built to cater to the challenge of shortage of office spaces for lecturers and lecture rooms for students.  In a news report by EduCeleb.com , it was reported that the Chairman, UI TETFund, Alhaja Usman Yahaya, during the ground-breaking ceremony, confidently promised that “the building will be of high quality that UI will be proud of and that the contractor will officially hand over the project before the end of 2019.” Hi...
